Welcome to Hythe Marina Village Winter News

We’d like to start off by saying a massive thank you to all our berth holders for keeping your boat with us this year, for what has been another busy and memorable season.

Marina Improvements

Over the past few months, the 17th Port and Maritime Regiment Army divers have visited us for environmental and sustainability works along with the installation of a Sea Bin. We’ve added droplines to the fuel berth for greater accessibility, and the marina electrics supplying the boatyard and along the quay wall of both A and B Basin are being upgraded.

We’re also busy planning the annual lock shutdown which is due to happen late January / early February (dates to be confirmed). Dredging of the lock approach channel will also be completed in the run up to the new season. Another project for the coming year will be replacement of a proportion of the marina piles. We hope you like the improvements. If you notice anything not quite right at the marina, please report it to the Lock Office so we can put it right.

Staff News

This year has seen many changes and surprises for the team here at Hythe. The first of which was the news that long time team member Gary Harvey was awarded Towergate Insurance’s ‘Coastal Marina Employee of The Year’. This was certainly recognition of all the hard work and dedication he has put in during such a challenging year. Secondly, was the departure of Chris Wilson from Hythe Marina over to Ocean Village as Assistant Marina Manager, a role in which the team here are sure he will thrive in. We will be welcoming Chris’ replacement very soon. Finally, was the welcome addition of new Manager, Richard Godwin, who is settling into the site and continues to drive the team to maintain the highest standard of service.

Events Calendar

Whilst the pandemic has put a stop on a variety of social events that were planned for this year, those that went ahead, such as the Proms on the Bund and Raft Race, were met with great success and we hope to replicate next year. Please keep a look out on our Facebook page and around the marina for details of any upcoming events. If you’d like to see a particular event next year, let us know. Don’t forget you can also join The Even Keel, our online boating community, and organise events and discuss the latest in boating with fellow berth holders.

Christmas is now firmly on the horizon and there will be festive treats and sights at the marina during December, so if you’re visiting be sure to enjoy the Christmas Carol event in The Village Square and the annual Christmas Lights competition.

We’d like to take this opportunity to thank you for your votes in Towergate’s Coastal Marina of The Year Award, enabling us to be awarded runner up. Your continued support drives us to aim for a better result next year, as we look forward to another great season ahead!
