MDL Marinas retains triple ISO certification, building on UK industry first

We have successfully retained all three of our internationally recognised ISO certifications, having previously been the first UK marina operator to hold all three.

The certifications cover quality management (ISO 9001), environmental management (ISO 14001) and occupational health and safety (ISO 45001). We are the only major UK marina operator to hold all three, and their continued retention marks a significant achievement, reinforcing our commitment to maintaining high standards across our marina network.

For berth holders, visiting boaters and tenants, these certifications are further reassurance of how we operate our marinas, from maintaining consistent service standards and responding to customer feedback to ensuring environmental responsibility and safety are embedded in everyday marina operations.

This commitment is reflected in practical improvements across our marinas, including upgraded customer facilities at Penton Hook, improvements to the marina office and roadways at Hamble Point, and a new 35-tonne hoist at Northney to enhance boat lifting operations.

We have also introduced bespoke water safety and cold-water immersion training, developed with Vitae Vi specifically for our marina teams, further strengthening our approach to health and safety.

Environmental performance remains another key focus, with us reducing our operational carbon emissions by 54% between 2022 and 2025, alongside continued investment in renewable energy and improved waste management.

James Barnes, our Managing Director, comments: “Becoming the first UK marina operator to achieve all three ISO certifications was a significant milestone for MDL and retaining them is something we're extremely proud of.

“These certifications aren't simply about meeting standards on paper. They reflect the improvements we're making across our business and our commitment to delivering the best possible experience for our customers.

“Maintaining all three takes a real team effort, and this achievement is testament to the hard work and dedication of our colleagues across MDL, who continue to find ways to improve how we operate.”

Retaining all three accreditations provides us with an independently assessed framework for maintaining service quality, managing risks and improving how our marinas operate. It also demonstrates the breadth of our approach, bringing customer experience, environmental management and safety together under recognised international standards.
