Welcome to Mercury Yacht Harbour Winter News

We’d like to start off by saying a massive thank you to all our berth holders for keeping your boat with us this year, for what has been another busy and memorable season.

Marina Improvements

Over the past few months, we’ve been busy making improvements to the marina. We hope you’ve been enjoying the large amount of car parking available and the large number of trolleys that we’ve invested in to ensure that there is always one available when loading or unloading your gear. We’ve added berths back into the marina to increase our capacity with the re-introduction of three more fingers on D pontoon, and improved access by replacing the bridgehead ramp on C,D,E gate.

Dredging of the fairway and berths between piers A and B and part of the fairway and berths between piers C and D is booked for the new year. You will also have noticed the improved view looking upriver with the recent removal of the vacant building at the head of the slipway. If you haven’t had a chance to make the most of our tenant Wesup for some paddleboard hire or lessons, we would strongly recommend visiting them for a more relaxed way to get on the water and see the river. We hope you like the improvements; we have lots more planned over the winter period. If you notice anything not quite right at the marina, please report it to the marina office so we can put it right.

Charity Support

Throughout the year we have continued to support Wetwheels, recognising the charity’s fantastic work with disabled people and the life changing experience that being on the water can offer. This support is echoed by a number of our berth holders who volunteer their time to crew the boat at various times. We also continue to work with The Green Blue and the Solent Oyster Restoration Project to increase the number of breeding oysters within the Solent. BLUE’s team has placed mature “brood stock” oysters at high densities in cages suspended underneath the pontoons, facilitating the release of millions of larvae into the Solent. The cages have been shown to provide a refuge for other marine life, with 97 different species having been found living within the cages so far, including critically endangered European eels, juvenile spiny seahorse and sea bass!

Events Calendar

Whilst the pandemic has put a stop on social events for now, we hope to see them return next year. Keep a look out on our Facebook page and around the marina for details. If you’d like to see a particular event next year, let us know using our online form. Don’t forget you can also join The Even Keel, our online boating community, and organise events and discuss the latest in boating with fellow berth holders.

Christmas is now firmly on the horizon and there will be festive treats at the marina for you to enjoy, so if you’re visiting be sure to pop into the marina office and enjoy a treat with the team. We’d like to take this opportunity to thank you for your continued support and we look forward to another great season ahead!
