Welcome to Brixham Marina Winter News

We’d like to start off by saying a massive thank you to all our berth holders for keeping your boat with us this year, for what has been another busy and memorable season. Your co-operation and support throughout the year has been fully appreciated by all the team at Brixham Marina.

The Team

Whilst we started the year with several staff changes, we’re happy to say that we now have the full team in place. This year we welcomed Marcus Heyes (Marina Operative), Guy Edwards (Night Marina Operative) and Craig Ballard, Darryll Farley, Chris Relf and Gary Taylor who have come on board in a supporting role. All new members bring a wealth of knowledge and experience, and we are grateful to have them on board.

Marina Improvements

Over the last few months, we’ve been busy completing the re-decking work on the main walkway on A pontoon, and also re-decked multiple fingers on B, E & G Pontoons. We have also replaced six main sections towards the end of A pontoon which were nearing the end of their life. We have continued the electrical investments by completely rewiring B, H & I pontoons. This included new mains cabling, sockets and new lighting modules. We are looking to do the same on F Pontoon in December ‘21/January ‘22. We’ve also recently benefited from a site survey from Millennium Marine Contractors, who surveyed the condition of our Events Pontoon, Fuel Barge, Wave Screen and Piles in the run up to a major programme of work to recondition and protect the marina piles from corrosion, ensuring that the marina remains secure for the foreseeable future.

Following the survey, we’ve also completed repairs on some of the piles and replaced various chains, shackles and bolts throughout the Marina, most of which can’t be seen as they are below the water. To make further improvements, we’ve now started our Winter Maintenance Programme to ensure the Marina gets the TLC it deserves and is ready for the return of the new season. To finish, which will hopefully please all, we’re looking to introduce a recycling centre which will replace our lone skip – this will be communicated through social media once installed.

Charity Support

Throughout July and August, we welcomed back Ocean Youth Trust South’s (OYTS) ‘Prolific’. Prolific was built in 2005, as a tribute to the herring-fishing vessels in operation along the Norwegian coast during the 19th century. Her length on the waterline is 23.4 metres, length on deck 26 metres and with bowsprit 30 metres. We have developed a fantastic relationship with OYTS, recognising the charity’s fantastic work with young people and the life changing experience that sailing can offer, so we were thrilled to be able to support OYTS’s Prolific once again. We look forward to welcoming them back next year.

Events Calendar

Whilst the pandemic has put social events on hold, we will hopefully see them return next year. We are hoping to host the famous summer party and will look to re-introduce our popular Trolly of Treats, which will be tailored around certain events throughout the year. Keep a look out on our Facebook page and around the Marina for details.

Tenants

We’ll soon be welcoming Tristan Northway with Adela BM79 as one of our on-site tenants. Tristan prides himself on catching and selling the freshest fish available – so much so that the fish is less than a few hours old by the time it reaches the shore and is available for sale. His slogan is ‘Caught by me, sold by me’. Tristan has agreed to offer Brixham Berth Holders a 10% discount on fish purchases.

Christmas is now firmly on the horizon and there will be festive treats at the marina for you to enjoy, so if you’re visiting be sure to pop into the marina office and enjoy a treat with the team. To finish, we’d like to say a massive thank you to every single berth holder who has supported us this season. It has been a busy year with some challenges, but we have overcome them and look forward to an exciting 2022.
