Top Tips for Sailing with Children

Boating and sailing with a young family can be daunting, especially if you are new to it yourself. But boating with children is not only infinitely possible; it can also be a very enjoyable experience. Holly Vint, skipper on the Ocean Youth Trust South’s sail training vessel, Prolific, offers some valuable advice on how to sail with children.

About Ocean Youth Trust South

Ocean Youth Trust South is charity which uses Adventure Under Sail as a personal development opportunity for young people aged 12-25, taking them to sea in the 30-metre vessel Prolific.

They sail with around 450 young people each year. Roughly two-thirds will be disadvantaged or vulnerable in some way: OYT South work in partnership with other organisations both to select these young people and also to ensure that lessons learned and achievements enjoyed on a voyage are carried through into a long-term programme of work with each young person.

MDL Sail Training Awards

Ocean Youth Trust South is a charity that is very close to our hearts and one that we're proud to support.

For over thirty years, the MDL Sail Training Awards have given more than 140 young people the sailing adventure of a lifetime, in recognition of their personal achievements in the face of adversity.

We are now seeking nominations for the 2022 sailing experience, where inspirational young people between the ages of 12 and 18 will be selected for a week’s sailing trip on board Prolific.
