We've joined forces with eight other sailing and marine organisations under Cleaner Marina, an initiative supporting and championing marinas, ports and harbours around the world as guardians of cleaner waters.

Joining boatfolk, savvy navvy, Ecoworks Marine, Clean Sailors, Ocean Cruising Club, The SeaCleaners founded by Franco-Swiss sailor Yvan Bourgnon, Finsulate antifoul and Harba, the award-winning mobile app for boaters, we will support and promote the Cleaner Marina initiative.

The partnership underlines our commitment to the prevention of environmental issues, and aid in our mission to become the UK’s most sustainable marina operator, developing a culture of environmental awareness and care amongst our customers and teams.

Initiated by Clean Sailors and launched in July 2021, Cleaner Marina aims to inspire, encourage and create a community of marinas around the world who are implementing practices which help to safeguard the health of our waters, and provides a free, online resource at www.cleanermarina.com detailing simple steps that any marina, port or harbour authority can take to help protect our marine ecosystems.

Cleaner marina and partners will champion inspiring activity of marinas around the world and encourage others in the same.

On MDL joining the Cleaner Marina initiative, Holly Manvell, founder of Clean Sailors comments: “It’s really exciting for us to welcome MDL Marinas to our Cleaner Marina initiative. As a team and group who are demonstrating their commitment to our waters and wider environment, and who are already working with solar, renewable energy and electric boats and vehicles, we and other Cleaner Marina partners look forward to supporting their journey to becoming a national leader in marina standards, and in turn what they can showcase to other marinas in our growing network, around the world.”

Tim Mayer, Director at MDL Marinas comments: "It’s fantastic that Clean Sailors are joining the UK marine industry with a common goal of getting Cleaner Marinas. At MDL, we’ve always had a focus on the development of green, sustainable initiatives, working with partners such as the Green Blue and The Blue Marine Foundation for over 10 years. We’ve installed oyster cages under our pontoons and are working with suppliers to ensure products are from sustainable sources, where possible."

Our business is all about people and their enjoyment of the marine environment. Water quality has, and continues to be, a big focus for us, as has our management of waste streams, separation of recyclables and green energy through the roll out of solar cells.

“Joining Cleaner Marina is another step in our journey to make all of MDL’s marinas more sustainable, incorporating what we’re doing now with forward thinking ideas that are flexible enough to be developed alongside changes in government policy and marine related legislation. We’re on our way to cleaner, greener marinas”
