East Coast Sailing Video: Sailing to Woolverstone Marina and Lodge Park
Rob from East Coast Sailing shares his journey as he moves his boat from Tollesbury to our Woolverstone Marina and Lodge Park on the River Orwell. With his sailing campaigns becoming more ambitious, he has chosen to base himself at a marina that offers the facilities and support needed for the next stage of his sailing career.
Now partnered with MDL Marinas, Rob reflects on the project boats he has owned over the past ten years and the experiences that have shaped his skills as a sailor.
The route takes him past Mersea, Brightlingsea, Clacton, Frinton, Walton, Felixstowe, Shotley Marina and Suffolk Yacht Harbour, before arriving at Woolverstone Marina, set in beautiful surroundings near the Orwell Bridge.
Rob also recalls a demanding solo North Sea crossing, covering 100 nautical miles from Cadzand to Ipswich in freezing winter conditions. With 30-knot winds and increasingly rough seas, he completed the passage after exhausting all available sail reefs.
The full trip spanned four countries in four days, beginning in Dunkirk, continuing through Ostend and Bruges, past Zeebrugge, and on to the Dutch port of Cadzand before returning to the UK.
