MDL Marinas supports first Reel Masters event for anglers

We're delighted to be showcasing our UK network of marinas at this month's inaugural Reel Masters' competition and show, taking place in Weymouth 30 September to 2 October 2022.

The festival is designed for fishing and boating enthusiasts who gather to take part in catch and release competitions (from boats and kayaks) as well as to learn about technology, experiences and - in our case - the best places to berth boats.

Reel Masters is the UK’s first such event held for saltwater and lure anglers and will have boats, terminal tackle and everything in between to see at the Weymouth Pavilion. And for those buying boats, or looking for an easy access, safe and friendly place to keep theirs, our marinas span the South Coast and reach down into the West Country, as well as stretching as far up as Ipswich - all of which offer access to fine fishing waters.

"We currently have over 6,000 berth holders enjoying annual membership with us," says Tim Mayer, MDL sales and marketing director. "And although we don't know the exact number who fish while out on their boats, we know from customer research that it’s high. Fishing is a such a popular pastime and is enjoyed by so many of our customers it makes sense to speak directly to other members of the fishing community who might not know about the benefits of being an MDL member, like our Otium programme which offers points on visitor berthing, fuel and boatyard services which can be redeemed to save on future services or with MDL partners."

Plus, so many of our core principles align with Reel Masters. The festival organisers have a sustainable agenda, which really resonates with us. For example, we have a 100 per cent zero waste to landfill policy, only use electricity from 100% renewable sources and even have a flagship gym which harnesses people power (74 per cent of kinetic energy from users is re-purposed).
