MDL has joined forces with French operator Sagemor to offer unparalleled cruising opportunities for our Freedom Berthing members. This completely unique package sees our customers join “Passeport Escales” to gain access to free visitor nights at over 130 European marinas – all within their Freedom Berthing fee.

This will allow our Freedom Berthing members the opportunity to visit a total of 150 marinas in the UK, France, Spain and Portugal, opening up the largest cruising network offered by any European marina operator and reaffirming our clear market leader position.

All our Freedom Berthing members will be able to take advantage of the scheme which is an easy-to-use, fully automated online system. It works as a reciprocal programme where berth holders check out of their marinas and choose another marina to stay at from the network. The only condition of the scheme is boaters must check out on leaving.

  • Those customers visiting France, Spain or Portugal and using Passeport Escales for the first time will need to notify their home marina to activate their account.
  • All Freedom Berthing cards will need reactivating if you intend to use them for the 2020/21 season. You DO NOT need to order a new card or reference number as both will continue from the previous year.

Freedom Berthing members are entitled to up to 5 free visitor nights at each of the participating marinas. Only two consecutive free nights can be claimed, although you can stay longer at the normal overnight visitor rate. Members may return to the same marina following a night away to continue their free entitlement.

FAQ's

Passeport Escales is a free visitor berthing scheme in France which is run by private French marina operator, Sagemor, who started the programme over 20 years ago. Other French, Spanish and Portuguese marina operators have now joined the scheme to increase the network even further.

The scheme is available to Freedom Berthing members from 1 April 2020 to 31 March 2021 (the berthing season).

There are currently 150 Marinas in the scheme and it’s continually growing - please refer to www.passeportescales.com for the current list of participating marinas.

The French, Spanish (with the exception of Sant Carles Marina) and Portuguese marinas in the scheme are not operated by MDL and therefore different entitlements apply.

Freedom Berthing members are entitled to up to 5 free visitor nights at each of the participating marinas. Only two consecutive free nights can be claimed, although you can stay longer at the normal overnight visitor rate. Members may return to the same marina following a night away to continue their free entitlement.

Based on a 10m boat at April 2020 exchange rate, the average cost is £27 excluding taxes.

The only condition of the scheme is members must ‘check out' on leaving their home marina or other MDL marina if visiting another site.

The entitlement is activated when members ‘check out’ of their home or MDL visitor berth. Upon arrival, the marina is aware of the entitlement via a sophisticated system and is committed to finding a berth for visitors.

Using the Freedom Berthing Card number, members can ‘check out’ to activate the entitlement:

A brochure of all the 2020 participating marinas, including information on how to activate your account and use the scheme, is available for Freedom Berthing members at their home marina.
