Europe’s leading marina operator, MDL Marinas, recently partnered with UK charity water brand, One Water, to provide its customers with a gift that will not only help to save lives in Africa’s developing countries, but also keep them hydrated whilst afloat this summer.
MDL purchased over 5,000 1.5 litre bottles of One Water to send out to their customers in special water cooler bags, ahead of the new boating season. As well as being the perfect practical gift for a long day out on the water, 100% of the profit generated by One Water’s bottled water is donated to bringing safe, sustainable water supplies to communities across Africa.
Adrien Burnand, Head of Marketing for MDL Marinas, commented: “We are really pleased to have collaborated with One Water to give our berth holders a renewal gift that will help transform lives. We feel there is great synergy between our two organisations and hope the water we purchased will help make a real difference.”
Since launching 11 years ago, One Water has raised more than £11 million and changed the lives of 2.7 million people, funding water programmes in countries such as Malawi, South Sudan, Angola, Kenya and Niger. Ian Spooner, Marketing Director at One Water, commented: “Teaming up with a prestigious marina organisation such as MDL Marinas provides an excellent way of informing an audience, which is passionate about water, about the global water crisis, and how they can help.”
If you would like to help this hugely worthwhile cause, MDL has set up their own JustGiving page. Alternatively, you can donate to One Water by simply texting MDLM47 and the amount you would like to donate to 70070.

Make a note of the date of Sunday April 26th when the first annual ABP Southampton Half Marathon and 10K race is taking place in Southampton, and if you are heading for Ocean Village and the marina pontoons or the RSYC Clubhouse be prepared for your journey to take longer.
The race route passes along Platform Road, Canute Road and through Ocean Village and roads along the route will be closed between 8 and 11 am. Anyone who needs to be in Ocean Village early are particularly asked to avoid parking along the waterfront between RSYC and Pitcher and Piano as this will be directly where the runners will be running through.
Organisers expect the maximum 6,000 runners competing in two races on the day — a 10km and a half marathon — which will affect traffic and through road closures on the morning which could affect your journey.
The 10km race starts at 08:30, from the city centre with about 1,000 competitors who will be starting to arrive from 07:00. The Half Marathon starts at 10:00 with up to 5,000 runners who will be heading into the city from 08:00.
If you plan heading to the marina or the RSYC, the best plan is to set out early on that Sunday and leave approx 15 mins extra for your journey before 08:00 and 30 minutes extra after 08:00.
The runners will have cleared Ocean Village area by 10:45 and the road closures affecting the area will be cleared before 11:00.
Race director Chris Rees said: “We hope this does not affect your day too much and if you have any queries or concerns about accessing the RSYC between 08:00 and 11:00 please don't hesitate to contact the organisers on email@example.com".

MDL berth holders celebrated the Christmas season in style last week, when they took part in MDL’s tenth annual pre-Christmas mini cruise to the historic city of St Malo for a festive weekend away.
Held each year especially for MDL’s Freedom Berthing members and their families, the cruise is a joint collaboration between MDL Marinas and Brittany Ferries and gives berth holders from across MDL’s marinas the chance to socialise and enjoy the festive period together.
This year, 335 MDL customers took part in the cruise, along with their friends and family – including berth holders from MDL’s Sant Carles Marina in Spain!
The ever-popular cruise took place on Friday 12 – Sunday 14 December and headed to the picturesque region of Brittany aboard Brittany Ferries’ flagship cruise ferry, the Pont Aven. The group enjoyed a two night stay in ensuite cabin accommodation, a drinks reception, and a splendid meal on Saturday evening.
The trip gave the group plenty of opportunities to visit the beautiful city, whether it was walking the bustling streets, exploring the Chateau de St Malo or the Grand Aquarium, or taking in St Malo’s exquisite shops to stock up on Christmas ‘essentials’.
Mike Smith, organiser of the trip and Manager at Torquay Marina, commented: “This year’s MDL pre-Christmas cruise was a great success! The trip was sold out and our group had a wonderful time exploring St Malo and doing some Christmas shopping. The cruise has become a Christmas tradition, which gives MDL berth holders from across our marinas the chance to get to know one another better in a relaxed setting and to enjoy the festive season together.”
