Organisers and exhibitors recently welcomed a record 1,600 people to the Hamble Boat Show, held at MDL’s Hamble Point Marina. Each year, the free event celebrates the start of the boating season and brings together boating enthusiasts and members of the local community for an action-packed family weekend on and off the water.
This year’s show attracted a high number of quality exhibitors, including SBS, Rib Shack Marine, Cornish Crabbers, Marco Marine and HeliAir. The event is renowned as being one of the South’s most popular new and used boat shows, showcasing boats for all budgets, from day boats to sports boats, cruisers and RIBs.
A family friendly event, visitors were able to enjoy on-water displays and many more took advantage of the opportunity to actually get out on the water and take RIB rides in conjunction with C2 RIBS and the RYA Active Marina Programme. Hambledon Wineries also reported a great show with strong sales and the Coffee Cruiser saw a solid demand for refreshments throughout the weekend.
Visitors to the show also took advantage of the Distress Flare Amnesty that was run in conjunction with the Hampshire Constabulary Marine Unit, and nearly 1,400 out-of-date flares were handed in between 10am and 3pm on Sunday 17th May.
Nic Parton, Manager of Hamble Point Marina, commented: “This year’s Hamble Boat Show has proved to be another resounding success. We have had very positive feedback from both visitors and exhibitors. Visitor numbers were significantly up on last year, no doubt helped by the weather and also the impressive list of exhibitors we attracted. The exhibitors also reported a good show, with many securing sales and gaining strong new leads. A number of companies have already voiced their commitment to next year’s show.”
The show is part of the BMF's "On the Water" initiative, which aims to encourage the nation to get out on the water.

Europe’s leading marina operator, MDL Marinas, recently partnered with UK charity water brand, One Water, to provide its customers with a gift that will not only help to save lives in Africa’s developing countries, but also keep them hydrated whilst afloat this summer.
MDL purchased over 5,000 1.5 litre bottles of One Water to send out to their customers in special water cooler bags, ahead of the new boating season. As well as being the perfect practical gift for a long day out on the water, 100% of the profit generated by One Water’s bottled water is donated to bringing safe, sustainable water supplies to communities across Africa.
Adrien Burnand, Head of Marketing for MDL Marinas, commented: “We are really pleased to have collaborated with One Water to give our berth holders a renewal gift that will help transform lives. We feel there is great synergy between our two organisations and hope the water we purchased will help make a real difference.”
Since launching 11 years ago, One Water has raised more than £11 million and changed the lives of 2.7 million people, funding water programmes in countries such as Malawi, South Sudan, Angola, Kenya and Niger. Ian Spooner, Marketing Director at One Water, commented: “Teaming up with a prestigious marina organisation such as MDL Marinas provides an excellent way of informing an audience, which is passionate about water, about the global water crisis, and how they can help.”
If you would like to help this hugely worthwhile cause, MDL has set up their own JustGiving page. Alternatively, you can donate to One Water by simply texting MDLM47 and the amount you would like to donate to 70070.

We have now drawn the winner of our free berth competition and are pleased to be welcoming Barry Walker and his family to Hamble Point Marina at the start of the new season.
Barry was offered the chance to berth at any of our UK marinas with his boat and will enjoy all of the benefits included in the Freedom Berthing package, including access to the largest cruising network in Europe with complimentary berthing at over 90 marinas, as well as benefits including fuel at cost, unlimited free WiFi and discounted boatyard services.
Barry was given a tour by marina manager, Nic Parton who also presented them with some flowers, chocolate and wine as a welcome.
Barry and his wife Mary took up sailing when he retired in 2011 and bought their yacht, a Hunter Legend 340 from MDL’s Port Hamble Marina. He was delighted with his win, commenting: “I was so surprised and excited when I received the phone call to let us know we’d won the berth. We chose Hamble Point Marina as most of our sailing is in and around the Solent so it is a perfect location for us. We were so pleased when we were told there was a berth available and we’d like to say a big thanks to the marina manager, Nic for the great welcome we got and for showing us around. We were very impressed with the facilities and look forward to berthing our boat there in April.”
