The Port Hamble Marina based sailing school, Sailing Logic, have been awarded the prestigious David Fayle Memorial Trophy for the "Schoolboat of the Year" for a record breaking 10th consecutive year, by the Royal Ocean Racing Club (RORC).
This accolade is awarded to the RYA approved training centre which scores the highest number of points in the RORC IRC Championships throughout the season. This year, Sailing Logic’s brand new Beneteau First 40 'Arthur Logic' is the highest scoring school yacht!
Sailing Logic was founded by Allie Smith in 1993 with the purpose of providing opportunities for people to access the sport of yacht racing. Allie comments “I am so proud that Sailing Logic has retained the trophy for a record breaking 10th year! Over this time we have worked really hard to get hundreds of people involved in offshore yacht racing, and this award proves that there is a place for everyone, even novice racers, in this competitive sport!”
Nick Martin who skippered Arthur Logic for most of the 2014 racing season added “It is an amazing feeling to win this trophy. Most of the races Arthur Logic competed in were part of Sailing Logic’s Round Ireland Race campaign. Our crew met each other for the first time in May, many of them having never raced offshore before! It is a steep learning curve for most people and fantastic that a newly formed team can compete with regular race crews and get on the podium too!”
It is a great achievement for a single sailing school to consistently demonstrate such good race results, and speaks volumes about the quality of training, yachts, skippers and first mates used by Sailing Logic in their race campaigns.
In addition to running the full RYA syllabus, Sailing Logic has developed its own unique race training courses and offers race places for individuals in many race events, including RORC race weekends, the RORC Caribbean 600 and Rolex Fastnet Race!
The trophy will be presented to Sailing Logic at the RORC Prizegiving Dinner on Saturday 15 November in London.

Dean Smith, Operations and Marketing Director, MDL said: “MDL Marinas is delighted to be the lead sponsor for this year’s Hamble Big Boat Championships. The series is a natural fit with MDL – being based just offshore from our Hamble Point Marina and involving much of the local community. MDL Marinas works hard to encourage young people to become active in sailing, working with the Ocean Youth Trust South to give deserving young people the chance to participate in the sport, so it’s great to be involved in another fantastic sailing event. We’re all looking forward to some great racing action over the coming weeks.”
The MDL Big Boat Championships are celebrating their 8th edition this year and have grown over the years to become a key component of the Garmin Hamble Winter Series. Prize giving is at 3.30pm each Sunday race day at Hamble River Sailing Club, which offers a warm welcome, hot food and competitively priced beer!

It was great to welcome so many berth holders and visitors to our stand at the PSP Southampton Boat Show. We hope you had a fantastic time and enjoyed our hospitality, and we look forward to seeing you at our marinas very soon.
It was certainly an action packed 10 days, where we welcomed over 4,500 visitors to our stand, served just under 7,000 drinks (many of them containing alcohol!), and we hosted a number of great events, all in the lovely September sunshine.
Here’s a quick snapshot of some of the highlights of the show...
We hope you enjoy the rest of the season and we look forward to seeing you over the coming months. Just a quick reminder we will also be at the London Boat Show from Friday 9th January and hope to see many of you there too!
Happy Boating from all the team at MDL.
