MDL Marinas unveils line-up for Southampton Sailing Week

Posted: 11th May 2017

Southampton Sailing Week 2017

In just two weeks, Southampton will be taken over by a carnival of maritime events to mark the city’s first ever sailing week. To celebrate the inaugural festival, MDL Marinas has thrown its full support behind Southampton Sailing Week, stepping on board as an official partner and providing an exclusive calendar of events for visitors and its members to enjoy.

Taking place between the 24th and 29th May, MDL’s Ocean Village and Shamrock Quay Marinas will be taking part in the heart of the city. Hamble Point Marina and Hythe Marina Village will also be joining the action, bringing together the south coast’s unique sailing history and offering visitors from across the country the chance to experience a wealth of sailing themed activities. From RIB rides and canoeing, to an open air cinema, street parties and fashion shows, there will be something for everyone to enjoy and is an opportunity not to be missed.

Adrien Burnand, Head of Marketing at MDL Marinas, said: “Southampton has a rich maritime history and its inaugural Sailing Week will be a fantastic occasion to bring together sailing enthusiasts and those who are new to the sport. We are delighted to unveil the events we have planned at our Southampton and neighbouring marinas, and would encourage anyone visiting or taking part in the week to make the most of the fantastic activities on offer.”

Chris Rees, Southampton Sailing Week organiser, added: “We’re delighted to have MDL Marinas on board as a partner, helping to make this event a reality for the first time ever. The events they have planned bring together land and sea in perfect harmony, and will capture Southampton’s close relationship with the water.”

MDL’s four participating marinas have each arranged an exclusive calendar of events taking place during the week. The planned events are open for its members and visitors alike to enjoy, all designed to celebrate the unique offering at each marina and showcase the versatility of sailing on the Solent.*

Blue Marine Foundation – London to Monaco Bike Ride

London to Monaco Bike Ride 2017

Calling all supporters to join the BLUE Marine Foundation for the 2017 London to Monaco Cycle Ride!

This September (Sunday 17 – Tuesday 26), BLUE Marine Foundation and its members will be tackling the intense challenge of cycling from London to Monaco to raise vital funds to help protect our oceans. Last year, BLUE raised over £250,000 for ocean conservation and, this year, funds raised will look to support our joint Solent Oyster Restoration Project on the south coast.

With this year’s funds supporting ocean conservation in our local waters, MDL Marinas is supporting the bike ride with the hope to raise even more funds. Over the last two years we’ve worked closely with BLUE to reach the mission to reintroduce 1 million oysters to the local waters by the end of 2017 to help clean up the Solent. We’re nearly there but every ounce of support from our members counts!

This is where you come in - if you would like to take part or support the ride then don’t miss your chance as entries close on the 31st May. Cyclists will depart from London and arrive at the Prince’s Palace in Monaco to receive a royal greeting from Prince Albert himself, the day before the start of the Monaco Yacht Show.

This challenging but rewarding event will see cyclists cover over 1,400 km and 19,000 metres of elevation, while raising vital funds for BLUE’s work on our local waters. We will be supporting the cyclists every pedal of the way!

We’ve partnered with BLUE Marine Foundation to fully support its mission to combat over-fishing and the destruction of biodiversity in our oceans, its aim is to put 10% of the world’s oceans under protection by 2020 and 30% by 2030. Challenges such as this offer a once-in-a-lifetime chance to join this mission. If you think you have what it takes, or to find out more, visit the London to Monaco Bike Ride website
