Enjoy a Day on the Water at Hamble Point Marina's Family Open Day

Posted: 22nd April 2014

On Sunday 27 April, MDL’s Hamble Point Marina is inviting all the family out on the water, as it opens its facilities for a fun-filled day of activities. Held in conjunction with the RYA’s Active Marina Programme, this event offers a great family day out with a range of boat training sessions, stands and demonstrations on offer.

From 9am to 6pm, Hamble Point Marina will be welcoming local residents, boating enthusiasts and MDL berth holders and their families into the marina. Activities on offer will include family training sessions (for visitors aged six and over) aboard either an elegant 31ft sailing yacht or a sporty 29ft motor yacht. Exhilarating RIB rides will also be available for visitors over 12.

Coastal Pursuits will also be offering ‘Try a Boat’ sessions aboard a selection of RIB Club boats and a 46ft motor cruiser, for an on-water charter experience. There will also be onshore demonstration sessions, covering sea safety, first aid and boat maintenance. Refreshments will be available all day on board Dolphin, the marina’s 21ft motor yacht, and from the Ketch Rigger restaurant and bar. A complimentary water taxi will run between Port Hamble Marina, Mercury Yacht Harbour and Hamble Point Marina.

Nic Parton, Marina Manager at Hamble Point Marina, said: “We are really looking forward to our open day and hope to welcome as many of our berth holders and members of the local community into the marina as possible, for an action-packed day of water activities. It’s a great opportunity for people to enjoy an exhilarating spell out on the water, brush up on their safety and maintenance skills, and enjoy our facilities here at the marina. The on-water courses are free, but all proceeds donated will go to the Ocean Youth Trust South, a charity providing adventure under sail for young people. It’s a fantastic cause and one we are committed to supporting.”

The open day is part of the RYA’s Active Marina Programme which encourages and supports increased berth holder activity by partnering with marinas, RYA recognised training centres, berth holder groups and yacht clubs to establish or enhance a programme of training, cruising and social opportunities.
